Mechanism of Action
PEG-MGF activates satellite (muscle stem) cells, triggering their proliferation and differentiation into new muscle fibres — the same pathway through which mechanical loading naturally upregulates MGF expression in damaged tissue.
Extended Half-Life via PEGylation
Unmodified MGF has a plasma half-life of only minutes, limiting its research utility. Attaching a polyethylene glycol chain extends this considerably, allowing a single dose to sustain satellite-cell signalling over a much longer window.
Distinct from Systemic IGF-1
Because MGF and its PEGylated form act locally at the site of tissue damage rather than through systemic IGF-1 receptor activation, research interest has focused on localized muscle repair rather than the broader anabolic/mitogenic effects associated with IGF-1 LR3.
